PT will not play

Ive seen other peoples posts throughout the years about how PT wont play. Or rather you hit play and it instantly stops itself. I am now experiencing this problem.

It doesnt play when I restart it. I have to force quit every time. I try to change buffer setting. I get the spinning beach ball of death and have to force quit. I upgraded to 10.3.5 from 10 and still have the problem, trashed preferences, etc.

It doesnt seem that anyone has actually found a solution to this problem. At least not that I can find. Any help would be much appreciated!

Your signature reads OS 10.8. Have you tried updating to 10.8.3?

Another problem Ive had since upgrading to 10 is that my I/O path keeps changing. All I wanted was for everything to go through my Mbox 3 and my Apogee Rosetta 200. I HAD it set to SPDIF, and whenever it feels like it PT switches it to Pro Tools Aggregate I/O. I dont change a thing, it does it on its own. Ive updated PT, I just now updated my OS... neither worked.
I opened a session okay, but my I/O path has me on the Aggregate I/O, which has 6 ins and 8 outs.... which I do not have!

Do I just uninstall/reinstall again, and again, and again?! Why are we so silly that we spend hundreds of dollars on these programs that dont work properly?!

Oh my goodness. I selected Avid Mbox in the playback engine. That seems to have made it revert back to how it was. It is currently playing a newer session, but Im having nothing but problems playing back older sessions that were recorded in PT 8. It worked all night yesterday, but then today.....

Man, I wish someone had a way to figure this out. Ive really found nothing on the internet though.

Update to at least OSX 10.8.3 (download the combo updater from Apple) and trash your prefs and databases for PT.

What was set to SPDIF? Mbox 3? Apogee Rosetta 200? Both? That statement alone is too ambiguous for anyone to know how you had this setup.

I did upgrade to 10.8.3. No change.

I have the Rosetta connected to the MBox via SPDIF cables. I have the Hardware (under Setup) set to SPDIF. Sometimes it switches to Pro Tools Aggregate I/O. Ive discovered I can just go to Playback Engine and switch it back to Avid Mbox and that fixes the problem. I just dont understand why it switches it at all.

I started a new session and Im having no problems opening that. Anything I did in PT 8 is giving me problems playback-wise. Thats what Ive figured out so far.

Were you using this same Mbox with PT 8?

I was not. I had the Mbox 1. Then of course, compatibility issues started to arise.
