Re: German and De-Essing
I like Res-Desser best for notching, which a lot of the other plugs don't have. The Isotope Spectral Desser, in Spectral mode, not Classic, can do interesting things (listen to the side chain in this mode, it won't be what you expect), but it is a huge CPU hog. TDR Nova is a free dynamic EQ that I've come to like a lot. Hope that helps.

Re: German and De-Essing
the metric halo de-esser works pretty decent on german dialog. the problem is that you have to solve the problem during recording in the first place.
using schoeps mics and bigger distances than you would be used to ist a good starting point. but if the issue already persists. metric halos de-esser and some static eq dip in the 6 k range is your way to go.

Re: German and De-Essing
I somehow missed this post when you first posted it. I think I may have misspoke when I said "a combination of". Perhaps I should have said "any of the following". I definitely don't usually use 3 de-essers on DX. I have definitely used 2, though not a normal practice. One in split/hi-shelf mode for "Ess's" and one in notch and at a lower frequency for "Ch's". That being said, I've received some pretty horrendous DX recordings in the past, and I'll do whatever I need to do to make it sound the best I can.

Re: German and De-Essing
Sometimes too much compression will bring up too much sss too. Just be careful.
