Actually, I think PT9 on Windows 7 does support USB2 drives

So, my internal hard drive is split to two partitions, C: and D:, C: is for OS and softwares, and D: I used for recording so far. Yesterday I tried recording to an external HDD, which is a 500GB, 5400RPM, and I connected it via eSATA.

Recording starts (I created a new session and recorded 6 channels simultaneously), for a while it seemed that it solved the problem, but after 17 minutes, the same thing happened, after this point PT recorded silence on all the tracks, and also the level metering went offline (while the interface looks working fine). After I stop REC, cannot restart it (flashing Stop/Play buttons..), checking "Ignore errors during playback/record" box in (or out), and then: few more minutes of recording before the same happens, OR the message that says the interface is in use by some other application, quit that one (?!) or quit pro tools..

I will update the Profire2626 driver to the latest, hopefully it will solve this issue... But what if not..?? Uninstalling ASIO4ALL v2 driver?

I know that my HDD is slower than 7200rpm, but some of my friends have been using 5400 ext. HDDs with protools for years without any problem. And the same error when I recorded to the partition of the internal drive which is 7200, that's why I think it is not the reason for this issue. Am I wrong? I will post Sandra diagnostics soon anyway.

Cheers,

T.

Thumbs up Re: PT9/W7 Mbox Pro 3 playback issue...DAE -6117???

Hello Guys,

First thank you for all your suggestions, it seems that I could finally fix this thing.

When I first recorded to an external drive which is important I know, the problem remained, but after some articles and posts I tried out a few more things.

I downloaded from M-Audio site and installed the latest Profire2626 driver, and I configured the Legacy Windows driver for IEEE1394 controller (firewire).

I also uninstalled ASIO4ALL v2 driver first, and I made a test recording in PT9 with 6 tracks, it worked flawlessly, I recorded almost an hour without interruption, and after stop I could restart recording (as many times as I wanted, as it would be normal).

After this I reinstalled ASIO4ALL v2 driver to see whether it caused the malfunction, but the recording was all right this time as well. So (for me) the A4ALL driver does not disturb protools and the profire driver in function.

In conclusion: 1) I updated the latest interface driver, and 2) configured the legacy windows driver for firewire, which steps solved the problem for me (at this time, but hopefully it won't happen again, as I recorded almost two hours without errors, while before theese changes it lasted 5-15 minutes before "crash")

Steps to select legacy windows driver for firewire:

1- Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box and press Enter.

2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane

3- Right click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..."

4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

5- Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.

6. Choose the second option---1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), and click next to update the driver.

I keep testing the system anyway, and I will post my experiences if anything went wrong.

Thanks for your help again!

Wuzlow, I hope this will help you too!

Cheers,

T.

I was wondering how the 3700 worked with Pro Tools. I have a 3700 with a i7 Q720, 6GB of memory, 500GB hard drive and the same graphics card. Was wondering if it was good enough to power Pro Tools 10??
