Default ALESIS AI3 WITH DIGI001

SINCE THE DIGI001 HAS ONLY 8 ANALOGUE INPUTS CAN I USE A CONVERTER LIKE THE ALESIS AI3 TO GIVE ME 16 INPUTS AT ONCE VIA LIGHT PIPE.

Also, check out the similar (but possibly better) units from Fostex and Frontier Designs.

I tried the Fostex and returned it to get the Alesis. The Fostex that I had only ran at 44.1k whereas the Alesis clocks at 48k. You have to use the clock from the lightpipe input when you run PTLE so the higher clock speed is better. Also the Alesis rackmounts. I have loved mine so far BUT if I had $1000 to burn I would get the Presonus Digimax (8 channel mic pre with lightpipe). All the pros are using it on theirs.

I bought the Tascam Tm-D1000 digital mixer from Guitar Center for $349 (B tock meaning it was a display unit)the Tascam IF-TAD ADAT lightpipe interface for $200. This setup gives me full digital mixer functionality and 8 direct outs to the Digi001, with 8 outs from the Digi to the mixer. The unit has 4 mic pre's, so with my Aphex 107, the Digi mic pre's on channels 1&2 and the Tascam 4 mic pre's I have a total of 8 mic inputs available. The sound of the Tascam mixer is very good, but it takes some time to get used to the menus. All in all it was a super solution to get to 18 total inputs for less than $600.
