Default Why hardware inserts

Why use inserts when you have lightpipe?

Does it make any scence to use inserts when they cause latency? Where if I dont use them i will not have latency and control the signal before it comes in.

My friend said I was missing out on a powerful feature by not using inserts..Is he right?

Are there other uses for HW inserts that I am not understanding.

Thanks

Lightpipe inserts create latency as well. Both methods are pretty much the same thing. Using both allows you to have more I/O's.
