App icons bouncing like this are most commonly caused by macOS Gatekeeper problems... caused by network problems reaching Apple's revocation servers. Haha I sure hope you're right!

Again, the only knock against that theory is that pro tools was the only thing affected. I've had that issue before where apple's server wasn't reachable, and that affected every 3rd party app on the computer.

But you're right. It's probably not demons. Probably.

You would think this type of thing this would be uniform and hit every app but it does not always. If might be something like gatekeeper remembering apps recently checked and not checking them again, but does not seem like that when I have seen it. Maybe apps with different generation signing technology? certainly apps not signed and you accepted to be installed won't be affected--could that have been the case with apps that would launch on your mac when PT would not?

Network malfunctions can easily be caused by a strong field. Have you never had a digital connection fail because a 75 ohm cable was lying parallel to a power cable? Who knows what was in that closet and how it might have affected a motherboard or network card?
