Default Pro Tools Not Running

just purchased an IMac version 10.4.9 2ghz intel core 2 duo processor and for the life of me I cannot get Pro Tools to run properly, let alone at all. I downloaded the combo update and it didnt help my problem. Every time i try to open pro tools the icon bounces for a little bit then there is a cornel panick and i have to restart my computer, after it restarts it says that for an unknown reason mac os x quit unexpectedly. I NEED HELP, I AM PISSED, I just dropped over a grand on this computer I WANT SOME FREAKIN ANSWERS PLEASE!!!! I am trying to run Pro Tools LE 7 with my MBox2. I purchased these under 6 months ago and am having serious problems figuring out why the computer wont recognize it properly. PLLEEEEEEEEAASSSSEEE HEEEELP MEE!!!!!

Ah ..the old Colonel Panic - under the direct command of General Failure.

Firstly - did the iMac come with 10.4.9 , or 10.4.8 reinstall DVD's. I know you used the combo updater, but it would be better if you could get the machine onto 10.4.8

Secondly - have you gone thru all of the steps in the Digi troubleshooting thread? ie repairing permissions etc.

Thirdly -what version of PT are you trying to install ?

P.S Also - it's no good yelling at the folks here...it's considered bad form

OK.... I installed my computer with the 10.4.8 version of mac os x instead of the 10.4.9 that it came with because Pro Tools supposedly cant run on 4.9, long story short, I installed 4.8 and pro tools is still not loading and it has the same symptoms as before. I need some serious help here, im running out of patience and energy for this, i bought the mac so I could run Pro Tools smoothly and i didnt hear a thing about it not being compatible with 10.4.9 until after i bought it. Someone come save the day.......

Easy answer. You need at least 7.1.1 to run on an Intel Mac.

Pro Tools LE 7.0 and higher was a paid upgrade from Pro Tools LE 6.9.2 and earlier
Pro Tools LE 7.1 for PPC-based Macs and Pro Tools LE 7.1.1 for Intel-based Macs are free downloadable updates from v7.0-7.1

Thanks, but....

What is the difference between:

Pro Tools LE 7.1.1cs2 Update for Intel based Macs

And

Pro Tools LE 7.1.1 Update for Intel based Macs

...Which would be best for my situation??

The "cs" releases (customer service) fix specific problems quickly, instead of waiting for a general release. Search for the particular release to see if it solves a particular problem you may be having. If not, you don't need the "cs" update.

"Who Should Use Pro Tools LE 7.1.1cs2?

This update is recommended for all Pro Tools LE 7.1.1 for Intel-based Mac users and contains fixes in the following areas:
Better unique ID management
Importing files using 3rd party applications
Exporting MIDI
Using "Overlay" with "Import Session Data"
Using volumes with Japanese naming
Importing OMF Files with AIFF Media
Using CoreAudio to record with third party applications
Writing Automation
Important: Pro Tools LE 7.1.1cs2 is provided as an interim "customer support (CS)" release to address the issues described. While our testing has not shown these changes to introduce other problems, this version has not been fully qualified by Digidesign."

The search tool is your friend.
