Re: Best Desktops for PTLE
I have a HP G60 laptop that i just bought 6 months but its not working with my Mbox 2 Mini that i just bought. I think its because of the AMD Turion 64 X2 RM-70, or the Nvidia GeForce 8200M G. Im Not sure but this is my first experience with pro tools and it sucks because of the 6086 and audio clock error i keep getting.

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE
Urban Tragic,, and anyone looking to build a PC for PT 8 (or any DIGI LE), there is a ton of info if you just go backwards in this thread, find a list of parts that fit your budget and go for it! There are a few of them under 1000.00,,, and if you want to spend a little more, the i7 thread is below the sticky threads,,,,,, one very fast PC with all the power you could possibly need for VI's and loads of plugs!!! Take your time, and read through this thread (where you see PC builds and test results) you can skip through the un needed stuff fairly quickly!!
Good Luck ,,,,, Mike PS !!! Always check the DIGI support pages for excepted hardware!!! But you will find some lists (parts) here that have been tested with time, that will do very well.

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE
Hi,
Am a new user picked up info about a lot of desktop setups running through this thread, I own a Digi 001 with my P4 and its dying now am now looking for getting Pro Tools 8/ 003. Was looking at getting HP Pavilion m9600t with Intel's I7 new processor so the setup can last me a bit. I know theres still no news of a 64 bit upgrade for Windows for Pro Tools so I was told by HP if i upgrade to Vista Ultimate I can run it in 32 bit mode as well. Please let me know if this setup will run fine with Pro Tools 8 LE. Your helps really appreciated! :) OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit-but can be run as 32 bit) Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 processor (2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache) RAM: 4 or 6 GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM Hard Drive: 750GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive Graphics Card: 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600GS [DVI, VGA, HDMI] |

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE
Thanks for your reply surburst, If you look at my post I was actually verifying the new computer setup for Pro Tools 8 LE / 003 that I will be buying. So you think for Pro Tools 8 if I ran windows vista 64 bit ultimate as 32 bit it still wouldnt be ok? I thought PT 8 is verified ok as long as windows vista is running in 32 bit

This isn't really about the stuff you said its more about your Core i7 Setup...The thing is that I ordered my parts yesterday and looking at your rig right now it looks really simmilar to what I'll have in mine. I'm just curious about the ASUS MoBo. I ordered a P6T MoBo which basically the little brother of the P6T Deluxe that u have and I just like to know if the Firewire that ur board has works properly with the 003R in PT8 or do you use PCI Firewire card (with TI chipset) to get the firewire working? Since you are a Core i7 user what do you think of it? Does it run with PT8 flawlessly or does it still has some glitches even with the Fast CPU? If it has what are u experiencing? I'll be more than happy if u could reply fast as u could! |

Re: Best Desktops for PTLE
Hi gang!
I've had a semi-custom i7-920 rig with Vista 64bit (Business) since March & have been running an MoBox2 Mini with PTLE 7>8 without problems. That being said, the "running" part is whatever load a newcomer can create. As far as installing programs on Vista 64bit, the OS (& application) know what's possible and installs any program either in: C:/Program Files or C:/Program Files (x86) The (x86) directory is where the 32bit programs go & they automatically run in that "space", there's no manual switching that needs to be done (unlike Mac's need for you to "start" OS9 if you're in OSX) . . . So, C:/Program Files (x86) is where PTLE 8 operates from & with a second SATA harddrive for Sessions, etc., the learning curve is being tackled without any incompatibility problems adding to my feelings of inadequacy. So far . . . |
