Default Random freezes using Pro Tools 9 on new Macbook running Lion OS (blue screen editing)

I'm getting random freezes using Pro Tools 9 in a brand new 15' Mid 2012 Macbook Pro running Lion. Everything is updated. I have the latest version of Lion and Pro Tools 9. I have a MOTU interface, all updated as well. It's usually when I'm editing tracks. It just freezes and it doesnt even allow me to Force Quit. I have to manually restart the computer. Most the times I can still move the cursor but apart from that, nothing else works. I've also noticed that while I'm editing tracks (usually using the warp option on guitar tracks) the screen turns completely blue, white or green. It goes away when I click the mouse somewhere. After a while it just freezes. I have every thing up to date and I still can't figure out why this is happening. Anybody else getting this or know why this is happening?

Are you:
- Running PT 9.0.5?
- Using your OS drive to record/edit files?
- Is your OS drive an SSD?

And have you done all of the Avid recommended optimizations for Pro Tools, especially including turning off spotlight indexing on your audio drive. If you are using your system drive and have spotlight on you may be doubly screwed. Yes Lion seems to make the system hang periodically much worse than Snow Leopard but so far in my experience this only happens when things are not setup properly.

Thanks a lot Darryl. I will check that out as soon as I get home. The hard drive is not an SSD. The PT projects are on my desktop and in my documents folder. Don't remember right now the exact version of Pro Tools but I know that when I installed it, it asked for an update and I did it. Will get back after I check the setup.

Desktop? You mean everything is going to one internal hard drive. That won't work well. You need an external FireWire (or Tunderbolt?) audio drive to put the session on. 7200 rpm with Oxford 9xx firewire chipsets etc. Easiest /modtcreliable usually to just purchase an OWC, Glyph or G-Tech drive that is explicitly claimed to be suitable for Pro Tools.

Exactly why I asked. You need to use a separate hard drive to record to/edit from. Also anything before 9.0.5 is not supported with Lion so ensure you are running 9.0.5

Hi there,
I am running also a MacBook pro 15 mid 2012 with Lion and protools 9.
I do not have any freeze issues but I do have also the graphic issue: once in a while the edit window flashes blue or red or green and then everything return to normal. I work with an external 7200 hd FireWire. And experienced this with 9.05 and 9.06.
Any ideas from avid people ?
Thanks
Best
Simon

If it is a retnia display - it is not a standard Lion software - it is a special build that allows for the different graphics resolution......

maybe the issue I don't know....Just saying.
