Default Pro tools carbon and Apogee Element 88

I own an Apogee Element 88 and I like it. But I'm thinking of taking also a Pro tools Carbon interface for its amazing features. So I wonder if I could use them contemporary in Pro tools......

You can run ADAT/SMUX out of the Element 88 into the Carbon. Requires the Element88 be connected to a Mac with Thunderbolt and you configure the correct input to ADAT out routing in the Control software. It has no stand alone mode, a very annoying non-feature.
