DAE error 9073 in PT9
"DAE can't get audio from the drives fast enough" (or something to that effect) I've been running into this error while recordings 12 tracks of drums across various sessions. I've tried recording to 2 different internal non-system drives as well as my external hard drive, but I still run into the issue. I've messed around with every different dae buffer setting to no avail, and I've tried plugging my digi 002 rack into the 3 different firewire ports on my computer, also to no avail. Here's a slightly outdated sandra report. My operating system is Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and I have an external hard-drive which I've tried recording to.

Re: DAE error 9073 in PT9
For sure, the VIA firewire won't work, so you might consider disabling it for the moment. Then, what exactly is the external drive you are recording on? With Windows 7, Avid is now recommending using USB2 drives and NOT using firewire drives. With your setup, I would install another internal drive for recording, and leave the external for backup and transfer. My i7 system runs 5 internal drives and I try to avoid working on externals as I often have performance issues. WD Caviar BLACK are a great choice.

Re: DAE error 9073 in PT9
ah, apparently the firewire information is out of date on that sandra report as well. I'm using legacy OHCI drivers for my motherboards firewire, and I have a texas instruments firewire card, but the issue is present regardless of what firewire port I plug into.
As for hard-drives, my 1 TB internal drive is my dedicated audio drive, and I was recording to that when the issue arose. I tried recording to the other internal drive, and the issue was still around, so I tried my external drive, which is usb2. I know the error says that it's a problem with the disks, but is it likely stemming from something else? It's just that I've tried recording to 3 different disks, 2 internal and 1 external, and none of them have fixed the issue. |

Re: DAE error 9073 in PT9
I don't know what the rules are like on bumping here, but anyone have any ideas what I can do?
By the way, I don't run into this issue when recording 1, 2, or 5 tracks at a time, and I didn't run into it when I was testing my system with 12 tracks of my [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ty drumming so that I didn't bring our drummer back just to have Pro Tools crap out on him (which, by the way, it did.) |

Re: DAE error 9073 in PT9
Have you tried booting Windows 7 with bare minimum services/background programs? Could be that something running in the background is causing a conflict. Also, try disabling your network controllers.

Re: DAE error 9073 in PT9
Well, I have performed the Windows 7 optimizations, which involves disabling all non-digidesign start-up programs and services.
By the way, would eSATA be a better option for an external drive than usb? |

I had a very similar problem recently. My quite new flashy PC bought from somebody selling audio pc:s would not even play back seven quite ordinary mono audio files. I got the same error message, and I said to myself, well my hard drives are NOT slow or corrupted, they are new and shiny. Yes, but. The Western Digital hard drives your Sandra report lists are manyof them Green. That means that although some vendors (perhaps mistakenly) sell them as 7200 bpm, they are in fact more like 5400, and they are not fast enough to run audio in pro tools 9. My PC vendor did not know this, and I don't think he actually believed me when I stated this as fact - learned from this very forum - but I did get new hard drives, which I have installed. Which is great: I swapped to two 1T hard drives thatreally ARE 7200, and THAT specific problem simply went away. I can run the same sessions without any 9073 or similar error messages now. The simplest thing to do is probably to get an external hard drive that you know for sure is 7200. If your session runs better trhough usb or f/w than on your internal drive - that was how it was for me - then it is logical to conclude that the internal drive in fact does have a problem, however new and shiny it may be. best, Petter |
