Default Adapter cards by PCI-X PCI-e! Does it work?

Hello everyone,

I hope not to break any rules by posting this post!
Who uses Pro Tools HD will know that the PCI-X cards are not compatible with the new Mac Pro
Therefore those who want to use your old system HD (with PCI-X cards) or buy Magma chassis or is an upgrade of the cards by PCI-X PCI-e, transactions both pretty expensive.

I learned of this "solution" http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/index.php?t ... I would like to share with you for more information.

Basically it is a card adapter pci-x! From a test (not by me) it seems that the adapter is fully functional on a Mac Pro 2 x 3.2 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB of Ram 2009 with OS 10.6.4.

The adapter in question costs about 200 €.

Someone knows something? I am about to buy a Mac Pro, but for budgetary reasons I can not take the new cards pcie pro tools but rather want to orient on older PCI-X cards used.

A greeting

Luca

Do you mean this http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-exp...er-p29855.html ?

I think there may be a problem with it being a Bus Type : − One-lane (1X) PCI Express . It would be interesting for someone in the know to comment on this.

Can't see any way a PT card would fit the computer with this adapter even if it works. I wonder how can they advertise this as Perfect adapter for UAD / ProTools / I-ram Cards ...??

It looks like you have to remove the metal bracket from the PCI-x card...and then an open space in the adapter's bracket leaves room for the ports. very curious if it works!

Oh, here they say it's cheaper and BETTER than Magma: http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/index.p...id=29891&sl=EN
Seriously doubt that this will work at all...

I emailed virtuavia today (as they didn't answer to phone calls) , asking them if any of their gear could handle 3 Pro Tools PCI cards. I was thinking the ATX 500w tower would be good enough.
They answered very quickly :
"Nous acceptons uniquement les cartes PCI 32 bits (pas X ni 64 bits)"
translation : "we support only PCI 32 bits cards (no X or 64 bits)".

Since I had no further explanation despite I had clearly talked about Pro Tools, I assume it just won't work.

I bought virtuavia PCI => PCIE Adapter adapters and against all odds it worked !
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-32-...-adapter-.html

I am running a mobo with 4 PCIe and 2 old PCI 32 slots but I needed more PCI-e so I bought the adapters and removed the brackets. Both SSL Duende and UAD-1e worked together with my UAD-2 Quad and PT HD2 PCIe for a total of 6 PCIe slots inside the computer itself.

sauna-l , the older Pro Tools HD cards is PCI 32 bit specifications but strangely put in a physical PCI-x form factor . Digidesign never made PCI-x cards.

The site says this adapter only supports PCs running Windows or Linux. Not Macs. Are you using this with a Mac or PC? If you're using a Mac, are you seeing any performance issues?
