Default Daisy-Chaining a Firewire Audiophile through Rockstor USB

My laptop, unlike my main computer, does not have a firewire port. I tried to daisy-chain my Firewire Audiophile through my Rocktor external drive, which has both usb and firewire capabilities. I connected my rockstor drive to my laptop through a usb port on the laptop. My computer recognizes the rockstor drive, but when I try to start PT m-audio 7.3.1, it says that my m-audio interface is not connected. The lights on the m-audio interface light up as though it were properly connected to the computer. I have re-installed the m-audio driver, but that does not help.

Does anyone know if you can use PT m-audio by daisy-chaining in the above-described manner? If it won't work this way, does anyone have an alternative solution?

Thanks,

Matt

if you have cardbus slot, get a firewire based cardbus (pcmcia card).

your only other choices are to either get a new laptop or get an m-audio usb interface.

Yeah, that setup won't work. you need to connect the Audiophile directly to the computer. A firewire expansion card is the way to go, make sure you get one with a Texas Instruments (TI) chipset.
