Default OT UPS power ratings

I'm looking to get a voltage regulator/uninteruptable power supply for my HD rig and studio computers. These are usually rated in VA, whereas on the back of the equipment the power requirement is always in watts. How do I calculate what I need, and does anyone have any recommendations.
Incedently, I'm in the UK so it's [supposedly] 240volts

The gear I'd like to run off the UPS:

G4 1.25 MDD with HD2 and Atto SCSI card 2x Samsung 19" flatscreens
Sync I/O
192 I/O
888/24
AMT8 MIDI interface
Glyph dual removable SCSI rackmount bay
Assorted firewire drives/DVD burners
Audio PC [pentium P4 3 Ghz] 1 x 17" flatscreen

Thanks

PB

Default Re: OT UPS power ratings

V(Voltage) * A(Amperes) = W(Watt)

so VA equals W

so if your system draws 10 amperes (which is quite a lot...) it consumes 240 (your voltage) times 10 (amperes) = 2400 watts. Be sure to get an UPS that is little over 2400 wats, in this example, for starting up systems might draw a little more than the rating indicated on the boxes (this has to do with loading capasitors in the PSU, etc.). APS en MGE make very good UPS's

hope this helps

Michael
