Default Help on new mic purchase

Looking for a little help on a mic purchase. I am running a digi001, presonous blue tube pre, and a mxl 1" mic. Most of my recordings are vocals and steel/wood flute. I do this mostly for enjoyment so my current price range is around $500. The rode ntk looks like a fine option and is my preference now, but I want to ask your opinion. Also any input on a better pre in this price range would also be appriciated.

Thanks so much
Chad

I have the NTK...its a great mic.

You might also check out the APEX stuff...I love the 435s (not the best for vocals) but they have a tube one also for about 250...

Preamps...save up for a VINTECH 1272!

Try Shure SM81 for flute ($350), simple SM57 ($90) BETA 57A ($140), SM58 ($100) Beta 58A ($160) for vox.
These are cheap and travel well if needed.

I have a Focusrite OctoPre ($800) with a MH437 OctoPre A/D Card ($325). I know that there is an OctoPre LE, but have not seen a price.

My 2cents.

We just bought a Shure KSM-44 used for $300 and love it. If you can't find a deal under $500 you could look at the Shure KSM-27, the sound should be very similiar without the figure 8 and omni of the 44. Hope this helps!

We also have a Shure SM-81. That is a great uncolored instrument mic but for just an all around mic for vocals and instrument I would go with the 44, and it will give a warm sound for both.

My AKG 414 is a nice mic. And it is clear and crisp.
