Clips in Clip Bin & CPU
Hi there.
Do the clips that are sitting in the clip bin - but are not currently used in a session - contribute to any CPU usage or slow down the system in any way - just by existing there? Thanks, Sparky |

Re: Clips in Clip Bin & CPU
Ok - thank you Darryl Ramm.
I was experiencing a bit of a slowdown in my session and was thinking this might be the culprit… likely it’s my old MacBook Pro…. Sparky Last edited by Sparky1; 07-18-2022 at 08:16 PM. |

Re: Clips in Clip Bin & CPU
AFAIK Darryl is correct, but the session does open a lot slower if you have many clips viewed in the clip bin.
I've found if you search the clip bin and return less items and save with that filter the session opens quicker. Weird but true in my experience.

Re: Clips in Clip Bin & CPU
Also if you have a lot of edits resulting in a mass of auto-generated clips - PT will warn you if you're not showing them and offer to remove any unused.

I've found if you Uncheck: "Separate Clip Operates On All Related Takes" that can speed things up with a lot of edits in a session.

Interesting, what does that actually do? Is it detrimental in any way? I actually found in the last few days that having massive numbers of clips in the clip bin does slow the session down. I'm working on a project with many many re-conforms and editing was becoming sluggish. I thinned down the clip bin removing unused files apart from whole files and it's become much snappier. This would be a big case for the elusive 'folders in the clip list'. If you could tidy away files into folders it wouldn't be such a strain on the session with a massive flat list of clips. Although I don't know how show file in clip list would work if the clip was in a folder?

Re: Clips in Clip Bin & CPU
I think it can slow it down but I've only noticed on feature level projects (especially with reconforms!).
