Default Do I have to use a SCSI card+drive?

I'm upgrading soon to a PT 24 or Mix system (I currently own an AMIII card in a G400 and an 8100 with Nubus TDM PTIII), and was curious whether I have to use an external SCSI drive (and SCSI card)?

I recently put a new 60g drive in the G400, which rocks for Protools LE; I can get 24 tracks easy with even a quicktime playing back as well. I also purchased an external 60g VST firewire drive which is even faster.
It would be great if I could use those drives instead of having to tie up 1) a PCI slot and 2) a slower external SCSI drive in order to get PT to work?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Joris

No, you are not required to have a SCSI drive. With IDE drives picking up speed in the last few years, SCSI is recommended but not required.

Matter of fact, at this moment, I only have IDE drives in my PT5.1.1 TDM setup.

exectly. but if you run out of space and need external drives, go with firewire! I was running a full 64 tracks from an IBM 60GXP in a firewire bay only last week. works out much cheaper
