Default Recording on left channel only

Hi,

I am trying to record using MAudio ProFire 2626 and ProTools M powered 9. I am running the defualt configuration in PT. When I record a track, say track one, it is only recording on a single channel. In this case the left side.

I am guessing this is because the default configuration has input and output IO as stereo.

I changed the input to mono and enabled the tracks. I recorded a track but I don't hear anything in playback. I think I must have the signal paths wrong.

I'm a real newbie in ProTools. Can anyone point me to an "IO Setup for Dummies" type tutorial? Or otherwise help me configured PT so that tracks can be panned left or right.

Thanks,

Dan
