Default ibook G4 what kind of juice are we looking at?

I need a laptop that will be able to handle recording up to 16 tracks simultaneously as a mobile recording rig. Hopefully with a buffer of set to 128. I have a 002r to run it with and a dual G5 1.8 for mixdown here at home.

Will the 1.33GHz or 1.42GHz g4 ibook with a gig and a half of ram be up to speed for such a task?
I don't expect to really be using any plug-ins.

Maybe a few....... ..........if I can get away with it. Are there any success stories with these laptops?

Thanks in advance.

I just recently ran a test on a PowerBook 1.5GHz 15". I loaded up 24 tracks with 5 Digi plugs and recorded for a min with an external FW drive. It was using quite alot of processing power, but it held up ok. If your only running 16 tracks, you should be ok, but as I said, I have only tried it once for a minute, so maybe it is wise for someone else with more experience to chime in.

I imagine you could get a few plugs, but that depends which ones... I wouldn't expect to run 16 tracks with a more than one Waves IR reverb, but maybe it's possible (?).

While overdubbing with around 10 tracks and a few EQ plugins, I'm occasionally already getting into trouble with a 128 sample buffer size under PT7.

But as you obviously don't need plugins while recording, you always can switch to low latency monitoring which should work fine. Just make sure to record on an external firewire drive
