Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
I got a new computer and whenever i try to install Pro tools it says "Installation and operation of Pro Tools LE requires windows XP with SP2."
Do I seriously have to have Windows XP to use Pro tools? And also, my computer wont install the mbox 2 either. It is saying I need the disk that came with it to install it, but I can't find that disk. Any advice? I have Windows Vista Home Premium Dell Studio 540 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q2800 @ 2.33GHz RAM: 4.00 GB |

Re: Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
Which version of Pro Tools? Vista requires 7.4 or higher.
Typically, you start the installer, and then hook up the interface when the installer asks for it. IF it's a FIREWIRE interface (is that an Mbox Pro, or mini, or what????) then don't HOT SWAP the cable, it'll blow up the FW controller. But. That's not enough system info for us to tell you much of ANYTHING. Start here: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=193637 Then, some nice light reading so you'll have an idea of where to go next: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=133039 I can't find that disk. Any advice? Uhhhh...designate a specific place to keep software discs? Sorry, you opened the door and I HAD to walk thru it!!!!!! |

Re: Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
i have Pro tools 7.3 LE. I dont really use pro tools, i use Cubase more...
All i really care about is that i can get the mbox 2 mini installed. a couple weeks ago my computer had to be completely cleared because of a virus, and i just plugged the mbox mini 2 into my comp and it installed without a CD. and im not some computer term expert so those links dont do much for me.... no offense |

Re: Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
Again, you need 7.4 or higher with Vista. You do know, of course, that Digi designed their hardware to work SPECIFICALLY with their software, so it's a "maybe" situation getting it to play well with third-party hardware? AND there's no Vista wavedriver. Just an ASIO driver.
The MINI is a USB device, so no worries about blowing FW chips. We could still use that system report, though...some of Digi's protocol applies to other software as well. Like the need for a dedicated audio hard drive. Is that Dell a desktop or laptop? |

Re: Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
If it was ME I'd go ahead and get the PTLE 8 software. It kicks butt. And you might never go back to Cubase. Okay for casual hobbying, but it sure can't compete with Pro Tools for getting serious.
"Used it before and it worked fine" is a typical statement when not following setup recommendations. System report, please..... |

Re: Installing Pro tools LE w/ Vista
Not setup report, system report. One of those links will take you to what's called a SANDRA REPORT and this will tell us EVERYTHING critical about your setup configuration.
First and foremost, having a secondary hard drive dedicated for audio is a MUST, no matter whose software you're using. My first computer rig was a program called EdDitor Plus...all it would do is record two tracks, and allow really comprehensive editing, but no on-board effects, or mix capabilities, or anything like we have today. Even IT required a separate hard drive for audio, so imagine how critical that is given the sophistication of today's software. And you can get a decent drive for around 30 bucks. (Make sure it's 7200 rpm, not 5400. It's important.) In any event, you aren't going to get 7.3 to install on Vista. 7.4 minimum. When did yo get your Mbox? You might be eligible for the upgrade to 8. But this makes it even MORE critical to make sure your PC meets the requirements. |
