Default 44.1 works fine but 48 doesn't

Hi!
I have a question regarding my firewire connection to my 002r.
I have Windows7 Ultimate 32 bit and are running PTLE 8.03.cs1.
My daw is a HP DV6 laptop dual core 2.0 ghz
The only thing that's work is 44.1 khz, as soon I bump up to say 48 I get
the error 6087.
No matter how much or little there is in the session I get this error.
I know that my fw card is'nt the Texas Instrument one.

So my question is if it's simply so that this card is'nt fast enough to keep up
with the flow when going higher than 44.1?

It can play for hours in 44.1 but just a few seconds in 48.

Peter

Do you have the 8.0.4 driver installed? Under support in the downloads section you will see a reference to download the beta drivers for windows 7 32bit and 64bit. I had the same problem and this driver fixed it, but I continued to hear distortion so I went back to XP.

Are you using a dedicated drive for audio?
And yes, you really should invest in a TI based firewire card to ensure solid performance with the 002.

The thing is that I use an USB drive and can't replace the FW card.
But as I said it works flawless in 44.1 both record and playback.

I tried the 8.04 driver but it made the 002 behave very strange.
The 1394 light went on when I started the computer and switched off
when I try to playback PT, weird. So I uninstalled it and everything
went "normal" again. So for the moment I have no driver since I have to remove
the 8.03 driver when installing the 8.04.

You won't be able to operate error free with a USB drive.
From this thread:
General Troubleshooting - Pro Tools LE on Windows (XP & Vista)
Quote:
IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic, so please do not use them with Pro Tools. If you're recording or playing back from a USB drive and are getting errors in Pro Tools, please switch to using a compatible external firewire drive or internal SATA/ATA/IDE drive and disconnect the USB drive.
As for the firewire issue, if your laptop has an xpress card slot you can easily use the correct chipset. I have a 2 port Rosewill RC-612 with the TI chip for my laptop.

I've been using USB drives for a couple of years now with another
laptop. It streams both recorded files and sample librarys just fine
for my needs. Running at 64 and 128 samples when recording.
But when mixing the single cpu is'nt enough.
This new machine has the power but can't record or play 48khz sessions.

Recording at 44.1 is ok with me but I can't play my older
48 sessions. I'm stuck with what I have for the moment.
I just wanted to see if anyone could share some light over how the fw port
is supposed to work. Have no xpress card slot either.

Thank's!

You may have been lucky in the past before installing PT 8 and windows 7 using the USB drive, but PT 8.0.3 takes more "horsepower" to run and your usb drive won't cut it period. As far as the 8.0.4 driver, did you install it the way DIGI instructed on the page? Simply asking cause it's not the normal way of installing when you installed PT 8.0.3. Doing it the regular way may cause issues when installing. Here's what they said:

"Caution: When running the Pro Tools installer on a Windows 7 machine, DO NOT plug in your LE unit when the installer instructs you to do so. This could cause installation errors. When you run the 8.0.4b Driver Installer, you will receive a similar instruction. Please plug in your unit at that time."
I suggest you try the 8.0.4 driver again since I had the exact same error you're describing and installing the 8.0.4 driver solved it. EDIT: Also I would not install the cs1 update at this time. There have been issues with it. BTW the issue I had after installing was a unrelated issue with the mbox 2 have crackling issues which should not be the case with you. Windows 7 audio drivers info
