Re: How are u guys capturing video?
Probably better asked to the Post Pro crew. I myself have never needed to do it for PT (luckily). When I do have to capture (mostly for personal stuff), I use an ADCV100 Canopus box.

Re: How are u guys capturing video?
I simply don't accept tapes anymore. Saves me a lot of time. It's little effort for a picture editor to just export the project to a quicktime file.
I'd use the Canopus 110 too. |

Re: How are u guys capturing video?
Some decks have i.link (firewire) outputs. Connect it to a pc or mac and you should be able to record the DV stream directly if it's SD. Only drawback: only two channels of audio get captured.
Decklinks are just perfect for capturing uncompressed straight off SDI. As for software, we use FCP. It lets you capture in MJPEG-A format. |

Re: How are u guys capturing video?
Capture, when necessary, into Final Cut via Blackmagic Decklink or AJA ioHD on Mac. If using Decklink they bundle a great app Media Express (Intel only) that may save one from buying into FC.
More and more we just receive Quicktimes. Although they seem to rarely send the correct specs :/ MPEG Streamclip is a must have in the toolbox. |

Re: How are u guys capturing video?
You can capture video directly in Protools HD using a Sync I/O, an AVID video box or other video I/O (Cannopus, BlackMagic, etc.) and, obviously a VTR. You also need the Machine Control software. It can be a pretty expensive venture to do it this way but the process is far from becoming obsolete. Especially in television commercial workflow when many clients walk in with a tape and expect to leave with one once you've completed your portion.
