Protools 9HD(CPTK2) to PT10?
Hey there. I'm an exHD user(96 i/o, HD2 Accel on a G) that switched to and 8 core mac pro and Avid Mbox pro last year. I was able to upgrade my PT8HD for the PT9HD(which is just the CPTK2 since I use it with the MBox). So my question is, if I upgrade to PT10...would I have to upgrade the HD price($999) or the regular price($299)? And would I still have the HD capabilities if I just do the regular upgrade? Thanks

I'm gonna take a wild guess that if you want to keep the CPTK2 capabilities that you'll have to do the HD upgrade...

If you have the CPTK you only need the $299 upgrade for full HD features. But if you have HD you will need the HD upgrade.

Wow this is just.....Wow so if you just bought an HD Native system that came with HD9 you have to shell out $1,000.00 just to keep your HD functions in Pro Tools? Hmmmm

Re: Protools 9HD(CPTK2) to PT10?
Its called lock-in.
And I have been quite impressed with HD Native as an option. But not when I see native customers being gouged like this. Avid may well be stuck with a problem of the breadth of potential systems sizes that a HD Native gets used in and not wanting to leave "fair revenue" on the table from high end customers. But there are lots of small studios and musicians with a HD Native and Omni or similar where $1k software upgrades are just too steep. Oh well don't upgrade to HD 10 -- but do be worried what an HD 11 upgrade is going to eventually cost. Sigh. Darryl |
