Default Ugly VSTi updated: now with ReWire! (freeware)

Hello Friends,

The Ugly VSTi Interface for OS X has been updated to now include ReWire output. This new version (b.03) is available now, as a free download, here:

http://www.refusesoftware.com/freeware.html

The Ugly VSTi Interface is our host application for VSTi plug-ins. It loads one VSTi at a time, and no effects, but it's intuitive and stable. Look for a deluxe version coming out in late fall 2005!

Sound on Sound magazine reviewed the original OS 9 version a few years ago:

Cheers,
Leigh Marble

Hi Leigh - sorry, I did an extra post about the release before seeing this!
Runs really well .... I tend to use the FXpansion wrapper for hosting VSTis, but what's good about your app is the ability to save fxps ... that option in the FXpansion wrapper has brought up a "not implemented yet!" message for over a year.
Anyway thanks for a great free app !
Errrrrmm how about an Audio Unit host now?
Simon

Thanks to you Leigh once again.
And as usual, I have to read the instructions over three to five times to get it right.
But, a major shout out to you for your hard work.

Tahnks to you too Simon for keeping us up to date.
...and Audio Units really wouldn't hurt either, now that I think about it.

Peace.

Great, glad that you like it!

Is the ReWire output working for everyone? It's showing up correctly as "UglyVSTi" within Pro Tools (it'll be in the instruments subsection of inserts menu)? There's been some concern that it might not show up correctly on some systems, for some unknown reason.

Cheers,
Leigh

Haven't downloaded it yet I have to hook the internet up to the Studio computer, but can I use it to run rewire for reason or just vst's? I have a bum digirewire plugin and looking for something to use to rewire.

Nope, it just hosts VSTi plug-ins (one at a time, so far) and has the option to use ReWire as an audio output. In fact, if your DigiReWire plug-in isn't working, I don't think the Ugly would be able to pipe anything into PT either, since that's a key piece of the virtual signal chain.
