Default ghost audio glitch, can't locate

Hello,

I got an audio noise happening in the middle of my song and can't find where it is so I could eliminate it. I have tried to isolate it to a particular track but can't. I have tried muting every track, but the noise doesn't go away until I mute my monitor bus. So with everything muted except the monitor, I hear just the glitch. Any suggestions as to how the noise got there, how to isolate and eliminate it from my project?

My project consists of 6 Virtual Insts and 4 audio tracks. My first suspicion is the bass track because it has an edit/fade right at the spot of the glitch. But, like every other track, muting it does not mute the noise.

Pro Tools 9
Snow Leopard
Mac Pro Quad
MBox 2 Pro
Alesis QS7 keyboard

Thanks for your responses.

Eddie

Perhaps you're overloading the monitor bus at that moment and it's clipping the signal?

Interesting, so I tried eliminating that bus by switching everything to Out 1/2. That's not it. Now I have isolated it to the Compressor Bus only. I have an Aux channel set up for that. Muting the Compressor channel mutes the glitch.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Eddie

Is your compressor bus automated? Sometimes a quick automation move will cause a click.

Not that I know of. Is it possible to accidentally automate the compressor?

Sorry for the rookie questions. Thanks for your advice.

Possibly. The simplest way to know is to keep automation "off" on the track. If it isn't automated, you could also be clipping the compressor or another plug-in on your compressor aux.

Is it a third party plug in that might be an expired demo?

Thanks. Turning off automation on the Compressor Aux has no effect.

I hesitate to suspect any kind of clipping because there is nothing particularly loud going on anywhere in the song, and certainly not at the point of the glitch.

Any more ideas?

Try this, right before the glitch and right after clear a small region, if the glitch is gone then it's in the track, in that case revert back to the full region and zoom in and you should be able to see the glitch and simply draw out the glitch with the pencil tool.
