Default Interesting bit of Info

Did you guys know that the Sager 3880 laptops come standard with a TI chipset firewire card? This may make your next Protools lappy choice a bit easier. Plus, Sager is perhaps the most respected name in Lappys today.

Quality plus Protools ready! What else could you want?

uhh...There's more to Protools compatibility than just the firewire card. Like the motherboard chipset, for one.

Well, I for one have never had a motherboard chipset, either NVIDIA or VIA, that hasn't run Protools. The most annoying problem for getting an 002 or Mbox to run properly, as I have read on these boards, is the Firewire card. The Sager has the TI chipset built in and does not require an PCMCIA TI card.

Can you name another laptop that has this feature?

Maybe I should have just kept this gem of info to myself.

Hi,

You are right the Fire wire device is great but that laptop has a 915pm chipset which sucks a big one for Pro tools.

Taken from the Troubleshooting thread here:-

"Some chipsets can also cause Pro Tools to stop in its tracks - to determine your chipset, download PC Wizard from http://www.cpuid.com . Check them against the incompatible chipsets listed on http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/intel/ - namely, make sure you're not running an Intel 915G, 915P, or 925X; ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 chipsets have also been known to cause conflicts."

So not so much a gem afterall...
