Default MIDI Input

Hey AVID,

Good morning. How are you? Hope all is well. I use Pro Tools to record and mix my music. Sometimes, I get lucky and come up with some $#!+. It happens more often than not but when it comes to using MIDI, I know what I want to hear, the problem is communicating that into the MIDI editor. The conversion from MIDI to audio helps but Pro Tools seems to think that I have a problem with timing. I turned off the Input Quantize, I also tried both quantizing and not quantizing. This happens using drums, plucks, and mainly one note sounds that I want to hear in any given pattern. I'm I missing something besides adding and removing quantization? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can rest assured that it is not my timing . I also tried working with and without the grid.

Thanks,

Rey

It's not super clear what kind of timing issues you're having. Does it occur during recording, playback, or both? Is it a consistently late sound (latency) or is the timing of each note unpredictable? Is it on all MIDI tracks? Are you using external modules or virtual instrument plugins? Or both? Are the MIDI notes out of time on the grid or is the issue only with the sound?

Without knowing exactly how you work, its tough to offer specific advice, so here are some general guidelines:
1-Don't use any high-latency plugins while recording audio or midi
2-Don't use any high-latency plugins on the master while recording
3-set the playback buffer as low as your system can handle(usually, 64 or 128 is fine)

If none of this helps, come back with full details(its not possible to give too much info)
