Cannot open session
"Could not complete Open Session command.. because bad data encountered while translating Midi Chunk List"
Anyone have an idea what to do with it? import session data won't help - same message on importing of any track. I have had this problem once before. i think its connected somehow with midifile import. Can anyone confirm? Digi? Thanks |

Re: Cannot open session
Thanks for replies.
I had this problem before and 100% sure it's connected with import midifiles by drag and drop. The session itself is not corrupted and it's possible to open it in "Import session data" dialog. The error message comes when I try to import midi or instrument tracks with midi data imported by draging from desktop or plugins (Stylus RMX) on it. That's why session backups won't help. |

Re: Cannot open session
I've never had a session corrupted from an imported MIDI file (knock on wood), but I've had trouble importing MIDI files in to a new session. Most of the older MIDI file collection from my old MixPlus-on-a-Mac-OS9 days won't load directly in to Pro Tools 7 WinXP. I've found that importing them in to a different program and then re-exporting them as a new MIDI file will sometimes cure the problem. I have an old version of Logic just for that purpose.

Re: Cannot open session
hmm .. can you import the midi to the region list? there are
several different flavors of midi .. PT doesn't read them all. jeff |

Re: Cannot open session
Pro Tools simply doesn't recognize it as a valid MIDI file. It doesn't matter how I try to import it. There are type 1 and type 0 MIDI files that I've tried and none of them have worked. Importing them in to Logic and re-exporting changes something, I don't know what, and Pro Tools will then recognize it.
As I recall, OS9 had file header issues when opened on a PC with certain files. It could be related to that. Who knows... It's a pain, but I have a work around. |

Re: Cannot open session
I have another corrupted session with same sympthoms. I'm 100% sure now it's because of drag and drop midi from plugin (ez drummer now) to track.
Can anyone confirm this? Thanks |
