Resolved: Avid Link 2023.11 crashing when installing certain Sonic Drop packages

Resolved and this issue has been fixed and the fix will be in our next release

Hi

Avid Link 2023.11 crashes when I try to install certain Sonic Drop packages e.g. Brutal Vegetables. The package downloads, installs files but Avid Link crashes leaving behind the download zip file e.g. Brutal Vegetables_SL.zip. This behaviour has been reproduced on two separate PT systems:

1. Mac Studio, Monterey 12.7, PT Ultimate 2023.9.0
2. MBPro, Ventura 13.5.2, PT Studio 2023.9.0

The crash dump says:

Crashed Thread: 19 ContentDropManager Thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000000000

Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11 Segmentation fault: 11
Terminating Process: exc handler [32395]

Anyone seen this? Thanks.

Avid Link crapware living up to it's well deserved reputation.

There must be a reason that Sonic Drop installers are not just provided for easy reliable install and download in Avid.com accounts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, it happens to me too with new Avid Link 2023.11

It forgot that it downloaded about 3/4 of them, I hit download all again, like you said, it got to Brutal Vegetables ZIP on the drive, then crash.

I presume there is data they would like to harvest and they can't extricate it from the browser. I don't know why else they want to funnel users through the abomination that is Avid Link.

Was there a solution for this? There's no other way I'm aware of to download the Sonic Drops other than using Avid Link. About half of them fail to install and crash Link.

Our devs are currently checking on this issue. In the meantime, we need to collect some logs from you guys by going to

HD/Users/Library/Logs/Avid/AppManagerUI

In this log file you'll see I was able to successfully install Brutal Vegetables, PurrCell, but when I tried to install Burnin' Breaks is when Avid Link crashed. I renamed .log to .txt so I could push to my public Git repo folder.


After the crash I do see the Zip files downloaded and extracted in /Documents/Pro Tools/Sounds Libraries/ although I'm not sure which ones are just loops and which ones should be installed as PlayCell instruments. I do see PurrCell installed as a PlayCell instrument, not sure about others as they do not seem to have a .playcell preset in the Zip file. Are there more libraries than PurrCell that are supposed to be loaded as PlayCell instruments?
