Pro Tools 10 native on HD2 system
Hi,
Maybe a dumb question so i apologize. I am offered an HD2 system with a PTHD 7 license which is ok, but i would now what will happen if i try to use my PT 10/11 NON HD, with this hardware on Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I know, its maybe silly question but unfortunately because the offer ends soon (about 3-4 days), i can't make my deep research as i should do. A am a long time PT user, starting from LE 7 but i never had the opportunity to look deeply into the HD world. Thanks in advance and again, sorry for my dumb question. |

Re: Pro Tools 10 native on HD2 system
Any HD hardware, whether TDM, HDX, or HD Native, requires the Ilok license to specifically be HD. So the HD hardware will not recognize the Protools software if your Ilok license is for just regular, or "vanilla" Protools 11/10.

Re: Pro Tools 10 native on HD2 system
Thanks a lot, your answer solved my question.
One of the reasons i asked also, is to determine, if i can use my ''vanilla'' PT11/10 with the HD hardware recognizing it as a normal Core Audio interface as would happen if i was using Nuendo or Logic Pro. But it is a bit odd because PT10/11 would not have access to the DSP cores and all the other benefits of the HD system. Thanks again! |

Re: Pro Tools 10 native on HD2 system
Yes, unfortunately it won't work that way either.
In fact, people with TDM systems were hoping that they could use their systems that way natively with PT11 (since 11 is not compatible at all with TDM systems), in the sense that the hardware could maybe just be seen as an interface via normal core audio or ASIO. But that turns out not to be the case. |

Re: Pro Tools 10 native on HD2 system
You're right. So it turns out that with PT11 and above in the future, the TDM hardware is totally useless because you can't at least have some sound i/o for PT with TDM as core audio device.
Hm..maybe i have to rethink the offer.. Actually, i knew that of course with vanilla PT i wouldn't have ''luxuries'' as TDM plugins or all the DSP processing (eg. elastic) , but at least i was hoping that i can use my system in ''some'' way until be able to find the $$$$ in order to buy the HD 10 upgrade. So the aging TDM systems aren't for sure a good and time-proof investment even if someone find a system at a very low price as in my case (HD2 with PTHD7 and HD interface for just about 1500$..) |
