Default Back and play - from what point

Hi
i upgraded from 7.4.2 to 8.1cs2. Previously my Back&Play button on D-Control being pressed while playing moved me to a point 5 sec before the place where i actually hit it. Now it throw me 5 sec before start point. Is it correct?
thanks

Are you taking about the start of the session? May be you should enable "insertion follow playback" in the option menu or hit "N" in focus mode.

In case you don't know this, the Back and Back&Play amounts are set from the preference pane. They are different for every time base too, so it might be 5 seconds in mins/secs mode at the same time as being 2 bars in Bars/Beats mode.

If you are currently playing, it should jump back by the preferred amount from your current position and have no bearing on where you started. This hasn't changed from PT7, 8 or 9.

this is what i'm saying. i have 5 sec setting in preferences and if i start 1:00:00 with prepoll 3 sec and go to 1:10:00 and hit Back&Play i start again from 57:00 point
that was different on 7.4.2

have you checked that you still have 'insertion follows playback' selected?
I'm always turning this off accidently with the N key!

that's the point- it's unchecked. If it's checked Back&Play acts as it did in 7.4.2 with UNCHECKED insertion follows playback!

And you're hitting Back&Play while still playing or after stopping? If you're still playing as you said in your first post, then something's clearly wrong.

Well if you're playing, the status of the 'insertion follows playback' toggle is irrelevant.

The only thing I can think of is to double-check the preference and see which time base is showing. I just checked mine on PT9 and it worked perfecltly. It jumped two bars back when set to bars but then I switched it mins/secs and chose 1 minute and that worked fine too. As I've said, I'm pretty sure nothing has changed with this feature for years so PT7/8/9 should behave the same.

You sound like you know your way around the system, so maybe it's just some screwed up prefs? Maybe try trashing prefs and see if that helps.
