Default Is Xeon L3406 compatible

Need to build a simple fanless system for just recording a few tracks.

that particular CPU with socket 1156 have only 30 watts power consumtion so it should be able to cooled with a passive big cooler

Have not found any information on Digi site if this Xeon family is supported.

Or do anyone have a recommendation for some other simpel passive cooled combination...

Its much less the cpu your using that matter, but more the motherboard. as it contains your chipsets and such. And its having incompatible chipsets thats more likely to cause issues. What motherboard are you using? is the system build yet? if so send a sandra report and well point out any incompatibilities.

Passive coolign is bad in my books. A cpu under full load might get extremely hot with a passive cooler and even shut down. maybe buy a cooler with a 120mm fan and buy a vantec stealth fan for it. they are extremely quiet and will move adequate air.

Maybe if you explain why you NEED this, we can offer other or better solutions

Nick.

Of course there is a risk of over heating a CPU, but thats a risk I will take.

I run a quad core Intel 9550S in my hd system and it never goes over 52degress even though I use the slowest fan found on the cooler, fanless PSU, 3 hd cards, two fanless graphics cards...and no case fan..have worked flawless for for a year.
The only fan in the system on the cooler runs so slow that you can see the wings spin..

That Intel cpu has tdm of 65 watts...going down to a 30 watt cpu for a light LE system and put a even bigger cooling sink would do it...would just replace the cpu if it would go down after some months.

The cooling aspect is my risk...but buying all parts before knowing any incompatible issues is more of a interest...

The Xeon 3406 is of huge interest because of its smooth 30 watt consumtion, and I have only need for playback 4-5 tracks, record one no pluggins for that particular system.

Therefor it would be interesting if anyone here have run PT LE on the Xeon 3400 series...and...thanks...what mobo people are using..
