Default Strange Issue with PT 12.7.0

I've been using this since release on El Capitan. Been working just fine, until last week.

Went to open the program up the other day, and the icon in the dock jumps a few times, then stops, and PT just will not open.

I erased my hard drive, and completed a new installation thinking this would help. It didn't.

I even tried running PT 12.4, no joy.
I then upgraded to Sierra (10.12.14) but still the same issue.

I'm just running a native version of Pro Tools, no hardware attached, other than a Focusrite 2i2, which was removed to check, but still the same problem.

Sorry if I haven't posted the information that will help anyone help me, this is my first post, if I need to add any other information please let me know.

I've searched for a solution, but I can't seem to find anyone with the same PT software/Mac version as myself.

Hi,

Thanks for the link. However, the troubleshooting isn't applicable to me, as I'm getting no errors. I previously verified that my version of PT is compatible with my OSX, and it is. It was working, then suddenly the next day it was not. No updates have taken place either to my PT or my machine, and I'm not using a HD system, it is simply a standalone version of PT. There is nothing attached to my machine other than a Focusrite 2i2 interface, which has been removed from the usb port, still won't load when this device is removed.

Avid support seems to think the issue of the icon jumping but PT not opening is a compatibility issue, but the version of PT I am running is compatible with my OSX.

I have several different versions of PT I can install, which none work - 12.5.2 and 12.7.0 (currently I am running PT version 12.7.1)

This was being run over El Capitan (10.11.6) but this simply just stopped running. If i try to open PT using either the program icon, or if I try to open a previously working session, the icon 'jumps' in the dock, but then stops, and the program doesn't open. I have erased my hard drive, and reinstalled OSX, still won't open.

I'm using a Mac Mini (late 2014 version) with 8GB RAM, 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5.

I have also upgraded to Sierra (10.12.4) and again the same issue occurs.

I would have thought if i erased my hard drive, reinstalled OS X (El Capitan) then reinstalled PT it would work. I don't have any additional plugins installed, and all that is on my machine right now is PT 12.7.1.

I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why PT will no longer run on my machine.
It was bought from new only in May last year.

That's the bare minimum we both know you cannot upgrade CPU to i7 but can you consider upgrading your memory from 8 to 16 gigabytes?

Hi,

I understand about RAM, but that's not the issue here.
It's worked perfectly ever since I bought my Mac.
My session isn't memory hungry, it's not even running any plugins at the minute.

I should at least be able to open the session. That doesn't happen.
I'm in the process of partitioning my drive and installing El Capitan on it.

So, partitioning my drive, installing another version of El Capitan on this new partitioned drive, and PT 12.7.1 again, it now works!

Not sure why it wouldn't work when I reformatted my drive and reinstalled PT in the first place...

Thanks for everyones input.

Oh please, skip the ElCrap and go for Sierra. Working nicely here.
