Default Re: Recording 3 part vocal harmony group into a single stereo mic?

I would try having the group stand as they do onstage in front of one mic and just listen to set the mic distance, 18 inches to start.
Try to find the sweet spot where their voices blend but you still have good presence.
They are really one instrument because they will sing chords etc.
Just have the performers step in a little for the leads.
This is old school - no spill, no phasing, simple setup.
I'd add in some subtle reverb later.
Take a look at the live album photos here.

He ended up buying the Blue Yeti Pro for just under £200. He says the quality is good but that the signal is a bit low going into garage band. Weirdly, and I suppose because it has to be, the gain dial is on the actual mic! And even when ramped up to full, the signal is weak. Told him he should've got a scarlet 2i2!

If he is used to analog recording the levels might look low but be fine.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mic was set to max out at -12 db or more from full scale.

That's fine for 24 bit digital recording.

The 212 would be a lot nicer setup.
