Default dedicated audio drive?

I am running Pro Tools LE 7 on a MacBook Pro. I cannot save or transfer my files to my external drive. A message appears stating that the drive is not a dedicated audio drive. Everyone I've asked has said that a "dedicated audio drive" is just an external hard drive that is used for audio files. It is proving to be harder than it sounds. As of now i have to save all my files on my MacBook's hard drive which is obviously not the right way to go....How can I convert my external hard drive into a dedicated audio drive and be able to save my sessions on it? PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you to all who took time to read and respond. Sincerely appreciated.

Is it a new drive?

How is it formatted now?

What kind of drive is it?

Sorry I don't have the quick answer, but this comes up a lot. A search will tell you what to do.
