Default This is driving me crazy!

Hey Guys,

I apologize for the desparate attempt in getting this to work but I need to know how it's done.

How do I automate voices in PT? I understand it allows you to have up to 128 tracks but only 32 voices at one time. Can someone give me an insight as to how this is done?

Thanks,

Chris

You can’t automate voices in LE.

You can manually drag/reorder an inactive track to within the 1-32 group of active tracks to make it active but this will then still turn off the 33rd track.

Hey dkrz,

Thanks for answering but I already understand that.

What I'm trying to do is, lets say, into the first minute of my song, I want to disable track 6 and have track 33 take over, disable track 8 and have 34 do the same, etc, is this possible? If I can't disable one track for another during the course of the song, what purpose does it serve to have 128 tracks. I understand the 32 total track count but wouldn't it be great if we could disable one track for another... for different parts, instrumentation, etc?

Maybe I'm really missing someting here...

dkrz or anyone else?

Thanks again,

Chris

What you're referring to is dynamic voice allocation. That's a TDM only feature.

The point of allowing more tracks than available voices is so that if someone gives you a session from TDM with more than 32 tracks, it won't have to delete those tracks to open it on your LE system. Instead, everything from 33 and up will be made inactive.

Quite simply, it takes DSP to manage dynamic voice allocation. In the TDM environment, it can take up to 4 chips at the higher sample rates. I suppose the decision was made to conserve the DSP it require from the host for more plug-ins. I hope that helps. I know it's not what you wanted to hear. Good luck.

Unfortunately, it's called submixing in PTLE.
