Default Behringer ADA 8000 and DIGIMAX

I might be recording a live set this weekend---snake splitter into my own preamps. With the digi 002 I have 8 preamps total, and need a converter and another 8 preamps. I've read on here that the thing is crap. I wouldn't use it on a session, but does anyone think it's worth it to use for multi tracking a live show?

OR is anyone out there in los angeles willing to rent me a digimax/digimax lt?

The AD8000 is far far better than a 888. Alot of ppl rubbish them here but in reality they sound very good, much better than alot of the 1st generation 24bit converters like the 888 which sounds like rubbish and is still in use at hundreds of studio's all over the world.

ad8000 is a box by apogee, and is indeed better as a behringer ada8000.

a digidesign 888 is not usable with ptle.

do yourself a favour and get the digimax.

I bet they hope you link them together in your mind.....

I do have an ada8000, and i never heard an ad8000, but i have a slight hunch the ad8000 will have the ada8000 for lunch. If it is anything close to the difference between the ada8000 and the swissonic ad8 (lots of a's, d's and eights here...lol) it will be HUGE (in favour of the swissonic or apogee...)

The ADA8000 is not garbage. Despite the fact that Where1290 (sorry if I got the name wrong) has posted at almost every available ADA8000 mention about his buddy that had two bad ones in a row (Do a search, it's actually funny!), it is not garbage.

I have one, it works great. It's integration to my 002R rig was seemless, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

People hate Behringer for all kinds of reasons. None of them matter except the most obvious--you get what you pay for. The ADA8000 is an 8-channel preeamp with digital/ADAT out... FOR $200!!!

There's no free lunch, right? For the $200 I paid for it, it is an outstanding piece of gear in terms of function, and yes, even sound quality. I have now gotten to hear the preamps on several other AD converters, and not at all amazingly, they all sound better the more they cost. However, the sounds I've gotten in test recordings with the ADA8000 have all been just fine. They need a bit more love when it comes to mixing & EQ, but I'd defy anyone not in the recording biz to tell the difference on live recordings.

I intend to use it to record live in crowded, smoky bars for my own band. If I intended to use it to record a studio album for a paying client, I should be smacked senseless.

So, to the original poster I offer my opinion, which is don't listen to people who say "Behringer stuff is junk." Listen to the people who say "Behringer stuff is cheap." 'Cause it is.

Cheap means what it means.

Sorry for the rant.

I've used the behringer ad8000 before and it worked fine. Plug and go. Only used it to up my track count to get all the guide tracks down without having to submix. I tend to do pre production at home get the map of the song on the grid, then take it to studio to track beds, then bring it home and finish bits and pieces and edits, then back to studio to mix down so using ad8000 is purely guides and track count for me.

No complaints bout $$ vs functionality here.

You need to listen harder. The behringer is total crap, an 001 will (and did) smoke it with it's plain jane pre's and doggie doo doo converters. Visible and audible distortion at nominal levels, xero headroom and typical slave labor quailty control.

Go for the Digimax or an Octapre. Or get the Behringer and pray it even works.

Aare the AD's on the Digimax better than the 001 or 002. Im debating going to the 002r or getting a digimax for my 001. I think I might do the 002r due to the continued support from digi and the pre's are probably better than the digimax pre's to start with.
