In my opinion:

PreSonus Eureka Pro Recording Channel Strip (Mic Preamp and Compressor with 3-Band EQ)

i've used the following with very pleasing results

A.R.T. Pro Channel Tube Mic Preamp (very subtle & very quiet)
FMR Rnc with and FMR Rnp (as good as $1000 plus units)

the A.R.T. runs about 300
and the FMR units are about 200 apiece

i havent tried it...but from the reviews i've read and soundclips i've listened to, i'd say the pre-sonus eureka.

I heard so much hype about the RNC/RNP and well ....I think that they are as good as what has been said.
They are actually seven hundred for the combo and worth every penny.
