ProTools and the New Macs
I think its great that Digidesign won "Best of Show" at MacWorld this month.
What confuses me is all the posts I've read that say ProTools is unusable on all the Mirrored Door Drive Macs. If thats the case, what did Apple run the app on? A Quicksilver machine? Anyoine have any real time experience with this problem? I need a new machine NOW, but I hate the idea of spending $2500 on a machine thats going to suck with ProTools. Does PT6 resolve the problem? Inquiring minds want to know! |

Re: ProTools and the New Macs
Pro Tools 6 will be qualified on all AGP macs, including the latest models. There were some early models of the latest G4 models that experienced problems due to a motherboard configuration that has since been fixed by Apple. The models shipped in the last few months from Apple should all be fine, earlier models may require a motherboard swap, available by contacting AppleCare.
In a few instances, users reported problems with early Power Supplies as well, not providing enough power for the Digi 001 and extra drives, peripherals, etc. AppleCare is also aware of these issues and should be able to determine if a replacement power supply is needed. All of our testing has been done on the currently shipping G4 models, which are qualified with the Digi 001, AMIII, MIX, HD, and PT 24 PCI cards. Audiomedia III cards will require the QC or higher rev for Pro Tools 6 and OS X: http://www.digidesign.com/compato/amiii.html

Re: ProTools and the New Macs
Hmm, will PT 6.0 work on a non-AGP motherboard G4? I have a 400 mhz YIKES motherboard.
Thanks, Gremz |

Re: ProTools and the New Macs
AGP graphics G4 models only with PT 6. Computers with PCI graphics motherboards experience frequent system hangs and will not be supported.
Mbox will be supported on G4 AGP, G4 PowerBooks, G4 (flat panel) iMacs, and "ice white" iBooks. Full compatibility documents should be available in the next couple of weeks or sooner.
