MIDI controller active but no input
Thank you in advance!
I have a new Roland DP 603 and I am trying to get it to work with Pro Tool 11 on a Windows 10 PC. I have connected the DP 603 via a USB 2 cable and verified that it works by inputed notes into Sibelius Ultimate. However, I cannot get any MIDI input whatsoever within PT itself. My setup: Under Setup->Peripherals, all are set to "none". Under Setup - > MIDI -> Input Devices, "Roland Digital Piano [Emulated]" appears and is checked Under Setup -> Preferences - > MIDI tab, the Default Thru Instrument is set to "First selected MIDI track" Under Options - MIDI Thru is checked However, when I select and record enable a track and play a key, nothing happens. When I record on said track, no input is received either. Please help! Is there something I'm doing wrong? I feel like I've tried everything. Thank you again! |

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
Hi, welcome to the community.
Take another look at the preferences. I do not remembr the wording precisely, but you probably want your MIDI device to be triggered to "first available" and not some specific channel. Try that and see if it works.

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
Thanks! Are you sure that isn't the "first available MIDI track" setting I mention above? The track itself does have it's input coming from the Roland, set for "All" channels.

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
First available is the leftmost MIDI/VI track on your mix window. Also take a look at the view menu, depending on your VI you may need to show VI assignments to see what is going on.
All of that is in the Pro Tools Reference Manual pdf which is searchable.

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
Thanks again. Yes, I do have the "Instruments" view enabled in the Mix window and have tried either having it set to Roland channel 1or to "All." And using MIDI-OX, I have verified that the data being sent is on channel 1.

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
Might or might not be relevant here, but last I heard was that PT was not win 10 compatible before version 12. What virtual instrument plugin have you inserted on the instrument track?

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
That's strange. I've been using PT11 with Windows 10 for several years, no issues. I've even used other midi controllers in the past as well.

Not supported does not mean not working, but you are on your own

Re: MIDI controller active but no input
Again I ask, what VI have you on the instrument track?
