Default help w/mirrored firewire drives (raid array?)

How do I set up mirrored firewire drives (I think properly called a raid array) using osx and two la cie firewire drives? I'd like one to be a duplicate of the other at all times.

Thanks,

Joseph

Use the Disk Utility application and click on the RAID tab - should be pretty self explanatory from there. Just realize that it's going to format both drives, so make sure you have a backup of any important data first.

I don't know particularly much about RAID on FW drives and would happily stand corrected.
If you implement RAID on two separate FW drives, what do you think does the RAID function? The CPU takes time out from processing your audio to manage and synchronise your disks. This can mean a significant performance hit.
For the best RAID solutions, use a dedicated RAID card. It might be more expensive, but the performance is reliable.

Correct. The CPU does a lot of work for software based RAIDs. Depending on the system it probably wouldn't effect programs like Pro Tools (fast seek) as much as it effects high throughput (video) applications.
