Sorry for the dumb question.but are you guys running all cores p cores and e cores at the same frequency? Also last time I used pro tools on windows, all the cores where the same. Does pro tools only use the p cores on windows like on macos?

Not a dumb question; we're all new to this stuff. P-cores are designed to run faster than e-cores. My P-cores are 5.8, and e-cores are 4.6. I don't really know the answer to that question, but it seems the p-cores take care of the main work of processing, while the e-cores do the background mundane stuff. At least, that's my understanding of it.

I'm not really sure on the best way to check.
A quick test with HWmonitor running seems to indicate the E-cores are just as busy as the P-cores in Pro Tools. The static screenshot is an empty desktop running. The PT screenshot is a 300 voice session with 900 instances of UADx API Vision + HEAT on each channel playing back at a 64 sample buffer.

When you say you are running PT at stock motherboard settings does that mean you've applied the standard turbo boost or is there absolutely no overclocking? Hyperthreading? BTW I must take back my words about thermals. To start with, my sessions aren't as large as yours. At 5.8GHz I ran a loaded 90-track mix session (buffer 64) smoothly with an occasional peak at 76c. Averagely it was 40-60; pretty good. CPU activity in PT was 12-15%. The action started when I wanted to separate some stems in RX10 (in an empty session). CPU usage didn't seem to go any higher than I'd become used to, but thermals hit 100c several times in the course of that separation with the lowest being 95c. The system didn't actually throttle; the task was completed without breaks or crashes, and temps dropped to 45 the moment the separation was done. To be sure the issue wasn't from PT I ran that same separation in the standalone RX, and temps were very similar to what I'd seen in PT. This is one hell of a processor, extremely capable, but HOT! I'm sure it would have been much worse if not for liquid metal thermal paste and water cooling. My conclusions: 1. I clearly cannot continue running this cpu at 5.8GHz. It runs super smoothly, but it's toasty with certain tasks. I'm going down to 5.5 so I can lower the v-core since I'm not ready to buy a much more expensive cooling solution. PT's cpu handling seems to be much better than before (well done Avid!), even though there's still lots of room for improvement in the area of usage distribution among cores.

Other than loading that new BIOS and hitting restore defaults, the only thing that has been changed in the settings here is setting the memory XMP to Profile 1, and also tweaking down the short duration power limit on the CPU. The default was set to 265 watts, but Intel seem to spec 253 watts. Turbo Boost is set to auto and hyper- threading is enabled on all P&E cores with the default settings. These P+E core processors definitely seem to function differently to the previous Xeon or i7 machines I have used. My old Xeon iMac Pro and i7 Macbook Pro would just rev up and stay very hot. This new machine seems like it is constantly on and off the gas pedal. It taps 100 degrees depending on the processing being run, but it never stays there for long at all. From what I have read, AMD Ryzen processors operate in similar ways. Have you been using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility at all?

No, I haven't used the Intel XTU on this build. I tried to use it on my previous build, but I had better success in the BIOS. I hear the latest version is really easy to use and works well with 13th gen.
