Default Black and White Image flowing from a Canopus ADVC100

My Pro-Tools HD 4 out of the blue, started sending black and white image (instead of color .movs out the canopus box today. I tried trashing the pro-tools preferences, and the DAE preferences etc, but it still does it.

Before I go off on some long troubleshooting tangent tomorrow, I thought I would post and ask if anyone has ever had these issue and thus some obvious solution.

For what its worth, if I play the movie to the screen instead of the 'out the firewire port' option it still plays in color. It just refuses to send color images out the firewire!

Weird eh?

Yours in music

Well, I tested one more layer, and narrowed down the problem so this posting is now mute....

Its definitely not pro-tools, because streaming from Imovie on a different computer through the Canopus results in... you guessed it.... black and white image...

So now I just have to figure out if its the TV input, the capous box or the cable!

Thanx

If you're using an s-video cable, then replace it.
If you're using a composite video cable, then the Canopus has an issue.

one bit of free information as i see this all the time : the word for an issue that is now obsolete is 'MOOT' not 'MUTE'

do as DX suggests. if the cable swaps don't work, try re-installing Quicktime. many people have had issues resolved by doing this. the Cannabis (ha!) is using QT anyway.

Its called a "Can O' Puss" down here.

I have the B&W issue with my VVTR, and found out I had a bent pin on the S-video cable connector.
The cable carries B&W on one wire, and the color on the other.

Make sure your PAL/NTSC switch on the Canopus matches picture

not to be confused with "Can O' Whup-A**"

Is one of those wire .1% longer?

i believe you have a good diagnosis, i am sorry if i gave the impression that i thought it wasn't. the B&W thing does seem to point that and a QT re-install was for NO picture. but, i thought it might help.... it could be the FW device, it could be the TV.

or, as a last resort, give up on mix to picture stuff and switch to music because it is so much easier.

Luminance on one pair, chrominance on the other. S-Video has four (4) conductors.

Semantics

Luminance=Greyscale= Black and white
Chrominance= Color

The other 2 wires are ground!!!
