Default Plug-in Alternatives to Dolby CAT 43 noise reducer

Hi I was just wondering what the favorite Noise reduction plugins were as alternatives to the standard Dolby CAT 43 Film Processor?

How does everyone rate the DINR, or Sonic NoNoise, Waves X-Noise, or Soundsoap ?

C.

I am using Waves C4 as a CAT 43 "emulator". It's not as efficient or brutal, but used properly it's quite good. The C4 has totally replaced the SR version CAT 430. On my last films I'll only used the CAT 43 on maybe 4 or 5 lines. After using C4 I'll also use less no-noise type plugs. They tend to add to many artefacts. A fast solution on a more single band noise, is to modify the "hiss remove" preset (?? not in the studio, so it might not be the correct name) in Waves audio-track.

C4 is really the most CAT43-like.
DINR sounds more like a funny music instrument.
NoNoise is another story. Except that as TDM it has a latency of some 4000 Samples (!, nice if you work to picture..) and is not comfortable to use. I sort of keep it up my sleeve for really desperate cases, where it has indeed occasionally worked wonders. But you have to go audiosuite, take a noise print, save that, go back TDM, apply noiseprint, bounce to new file, etc. Perfect for when you've got nothing left to loose.

Cheers
Florian

the wavearts multidynamics plug is very similar to C4. though cheaper... HOWEVER, it is RTAS only at the moment.

wavearts

the pirate hipped me to it.

Some interesting feedback on these plugins. And thanks minsister for the tip on wavearts - I'm off to try and download a demo from the site and look into the C4 that everyone seems to be using as well.

The 6 bands on the WaveArts vs the 4 on the Waves C4 can sometimes pull off miracles. The WaveArts lets you hone in on problem areas better and you don't have to deal with WUP! (but that's another story...)

Hi Pirate,
I'm starting my 30 day trial of the Wavearts bundle and toying with the bands and functionality. I was particulary interested in this plugin as my alternative to the CAT 43 as there are several scenes that have way way to much wind noise on mics and I have to solve it this Sunday to be exact Have you any suggestions using either the C4 or the Wavearts?

yours

Ciaran
