If you don´t see the damage, try to sell Avid hardware without software - you rarely will find a buyer, because this one cannot buy Protools HD software without hardware
So Avid wants us to force to stay on ProTools - and seeing, what they have
done the last years, means, this will be incredible expensive

HD software as a stand alone will be available next year (allegedly anyway) for $999. Therefore one will be able to sell their hardware and Avid will charge the buyer an additional granny for the software.

This is a far cry from the $200 I paid for PT HD7 and $250 for HD8.

Agreed Mr. O. Avid has purposefully made what HD is confusing, even to the point of Avid's moving any discussion thread of HD Upgrade Consequences OUT of this forum.

HD used to be SW+PCIe Card+Avid IO. Now? Who knows?

I can understand this for a standalone software product, but HD software does not currently exist as a product. Its only function is as one component of a Pro Tools HW+SW system. So the forced inclusion of a new support-license "product" to an upgraded perpetual license impairs the transferability of the entire system it is part of. Makes no sense.

Enough of this crap who owns the software or right to use it! It's all semantics at this point. If you can sell it, you own it.

They can be very frustrating.

For example: I point out to another poster that it wouldn't be like car insurance, but actually like selling a car (IN THE CONTEXT OF THEIR POST). Then people quote my reply (OUT OF CONTEXT) and discuss that, as if I made the original statement.

I know, it's the Internet.

For everyone whom says you DON'T OWN Pro Tools software.

Please see this link:https://www.avid.com/US/products/pro-tools-software

Avid should not be advertising that you do/can OWN Pro Tools, if in fact you don't/can't.

But, they are advertising that you can own it for $599.

What you actually are selling is your license, IE your right to use the software, not the software itself. It may be semantic, but it has actually a very deep meaning in the perception of entitlement.

Agreed.

Plus, if you own it, you can sell it.

But, Avid is advertising that you can own it (right now), then after you've purchased it, the fine print says you don't own it.

PT 12.4 is out and still the Core Audio Drivers are not updated for the HD owners paying 3 times as much.

Avid?
