Default 4 GB RAM makes sense?

Hello everybody,

does the performance of PTLE improve, if I uprade to 4 GB of RAM? On many of my sessions there several guitar-tracks with Amplitube 2.0 and a drum-track with BFD2.0. The CPU-usage is so high, that I have to record the drum-track to an audio-track and make several other tracks inactive to start the playback.

I plan to upgrade to at least 2 GB.

You're talking about apples and oranges.

The problem you are asking about is running out of CPU, which using several versions of Amplitube will certainly do. All amp simulators are CPU hogs, and it is highly recommended to print the output of them to tracks to free up CPU cycles. (I've got a tutorial for recording amp sims on my website, if you're interested in how I prefer to do it).

Adding more RAM may help a little with the samples, but it's not going to help with the CPU.

CPU = apples
RAM = oranges

You are looking for CPU power, not RAM.

For your situation, the only thing more RAM will really help you with is loading bigger BFD kits.

On a side note, Studio Devil is a neat little amp sim that doesn't hog too much CPU power. I use it a lot for demos, and sometimes it makes it into final productions (usually for high gain stuff only.)
