Default DO YOU REALLY NEED A \"CERTIFIED\" MAC?

I am going to get a new or used computer to run the Digi 002 rack. The Digidesign list of "certified" Macs seems to include only older models, some dual processors, and some of the single processor mirror door models and quicksilvers. The Apple store near me is selling new G4 models with a single processor, 1.25 GHz, for $1299. The price seems OK, but I did not see this particular model on the Digi certified list (this is not a mirror door or quicksilver). Is any Macintosh with firewire ports and enough processor speed able to run the 002 rack? Somebody told me "a Mac is a Mac." Or should I look for a used Mac that is definitely on the Digi certified list to avoid problems?

Thanks,
Jim

The time of the clones is long over, so a Mac is a Mac, once again. I !guess! digidesign did not check these models explicitly, while there are only minor changes in the production line. Either digi nor Apple can afford that a Pro Tools system does not run on Mac today.
If this doesn´t help you contct digi support directly.

digi certification means the performance of the system should be good. non-certified macs will most likely work, but will likely result to lower performance. i for example drive my 002rack with non-certified 667mhz powerbook and get fine results with it, however i'm planning to upgrade the day they sell at least 2ghz powerbooks.

anyway, while the newest g5:s might have some other things to be sorted out, the older macs most likely only suffer from poorer performance. they have been around for some time now, and have already been certified to older protools systems earlier.

what they are selling you actually is a mirror door model. Go to http://store.apple.com and click on 'powermac G4' on the left. You'll see your mirror door single 1.25mhz G4 for $1299. This is the same thing as the dual 1.25mhz mirror door but with only one processor, which has been approved by digidesign, so you are in fine shape.
Enjoy!
