Default MIDI overdub issue

I’m doing an organ track using a Reason plug in. I did the basics and then wanted to add a few high notes, sliding up the keyboard. The high notes recorded, but as they came in, the original notes turned silent. The wave forms are still there, but no sound. I can only hear the high notes. It’s like they are cancelling the previous notes out. But they are not deleted. I see them and if I move the cursor over them, they produce sound. I tried re-recoding the lower notes, but nothing changed.

Anyone have advice? Thanks.

I'm guessing you do not have Pro Tools set to merge MIDI on record, so when you tried to record the high notes, they were recorded to a new clip rather than merged into the current one.

To enable MIDI Merge:
1 To view the MIDI controls in the Transport window, select View > Transport > MIDI Controls.
2 In the Transport window, click the MIDI Merge
button so it becomes highlighted

Thanks for the response. But I do have midi merge engaged. That’s what makes this so strange. Could it be my midi device?

This may be a silly question, but is the sound preset you are using on that track monophonic? Perhaps try a different sound or instrument plug-in and see if it will play more than one note at a time.
