Default MIDI input = USB??

I am thinking about buying TDM rig and now I wonder do I need MIDI I/O interface? What do you guys use for master keyboard? Would PT see USB keyboard in any way?

no, you don't have to use the Digi Midi I/O box. as long as your
OS recognizes the USB keyboard to be a midi/audio device, then protools
can use it. most USB/Midi2 keyboards don't require special drivers, but
some do.

just plug the keyboard in, let the OS recognize it .. start up PT, and
then you can use the Midi Setup (AMS/MSS) dialog to enable it as an input and/or
output device. get to know Midi Thru button.

the midi i/o box is still a good box .. if you need 10 ins and outs with
time coding, it works well. .. but for just dinking around on a single
keyboard, it's overkill.

It should work fine.

After Gibson bought Opcode and pulled the plug on any further OMS development, Apple picked up the ball and incorporated it into OSX. Doug Wyatt, who was primarily responsible for OMS, went to work for Apple, and really did things right. These days, MIDI just works, and 99.9% of us never give it a second thought. It wasn't always that way.
