Default 2021.6 and the new windows 11

anybody know anything? compatible or not? two big releases in a short time, is Windows 11 different than 10 as far Pro tools is concerned. any info would be appreciated if any is available. or do we have to go through what has been a pain in the preferable Butt for Mac users in the past. do Windows users now have to suffer the same fate?

Quick answer is no one knows. Pretty easy solution. Clone a drive and install Windows 11 without wiping the drive and boot from that drive. Does Pro Tools work, great. If it doesn't, boot from your original drive.

For me, instead of a clone, I'll have an image I can return to.

But it begs the question, why are you in a hurry to go to Windows 11? What is it going to offer that a fully updated Windows 10 doesn't?

And yes, some of the Mac faithful have had issues with Apple's OS X updates, but Apple doesn't worry about third party compatibility.

It is safe to assume that there will be a few issues initially so don't be an early adopter. It will be followed by several months of development and testing before a possible candidate version of Protools will be available. Again the first version for Windows 11 will not be perfect. A few more iterations and then a relative stable version can be used with Windows 11. I suggest you check back around March 2022. By then Microsoft may be releasing an updated version to fix some bugs or add some features. Protools will go back to development and testing. The cycle will continue.

I just read that windows 11 will be sold on new computers beginning in October but upgrades from windows 10 won't be available until next year.

I would assume that, unlike OS X where you can't go back to an OS older than what came with the Mac, those new computers would be able to have Windows 10 installed.

Since there are a fair amount of roll-your-own box builders around here, one thing to look out for is the TPM requirement to install Win 11. Apparently they're serious about enforcing this.

I’ve read that TPM is built into recent processor chips and just needs to be enabled in the bios.
